Entropic State Report 26th August 2020

So, Bradford remains on localised lockdown for at least another week. Meanwhile the second of two shows we managed to record in that brief spell when Loz was able to visit has hit the…

Airwaves?

T’interwebs?

Grey fees?

It’s done nicely so far too, continuing the upward trend of downloads and listeners and taking the record for activity in the first 48 hours for an individual episode.

In sadder news, I was due to record The Final Programme Phase Two remotely with Hussein this week but yesterday he lost his uncle to Covid19. This coming so soon after losing his dad in March is a real blow. He’s doing it tough at the moment but he’ll be back and just like before he’ll have plenty of groovy insights to share.

On a slightly different note, I found out at the back end of last week that I’d been quoted and referenced in a Danish book of literary criticism. This is a rare thrill for me and all the more exciting and mysterious because I don’t read Danish. I instantly ordered a copy though and it’s a gorgeous tome. The chief side effect of this is that it’s nudged a Wheels of Terror episode that little bit closer and I already have a willing co-host.

There have also been some developments regarding the potential for a couple of shows looking at Moorcock’s relationship with music and Hawkwind in particular. I’m looking at a couple of very tasty collaborations with some esteemed and learned Hawkwind specialists. More on this soon.

Right, that’s about it for tonight.

Stay safe pards, and I’ll see you on the moonbeam roads.

Entropic State Report 22nd August 2020

It’s been almost three weeks since we put out our RPG focused show and debuted The Journal of Gerard Arthur Connelly. We’ve been on a very satisfying upward trend in terms of downloads and it continued with that show being our fasted downloaded and having the highest number of listeners in the first seven days to date. We’ve had some lovely feedback too, and one particularly spicy riposte from a long time Stormbringer player. All feedback is good feedback though. I love the exchange of opinions and ideas in our community, across all forums including here and on twitter, Instagram and via the WordPress pages.

Next up is our first delve into the tales of Corum. We ambitiously recorded this show immediately after the RPG one and inevitably we may have overstretched somewhat, particularly given the intake of bizarre birthday beers along the way, and our energy levels were somewhat affected. Nevertheless I’ve gone through the editing and got rid of all of the groaning, slurping and mumbling to hopefully leave behind a half-decent discussion on Book One of The Knight of the Swords. This show will also pick up the Journal with Chapter Two. I will also soon be detailing GAC’s weird encounter with that most inscrutable of powers, the Baker on the Rocks.

Meanwhile stay safe and I’ll see you soon for an old fashioned and a hand or two at the Terminal Cafe.

Entropic State Update 05.08.20

Howdy pards,

News from Tanelorn.

First, a hearty welcome to new patron John. Welcome aboard John, the good ship Donblas is delighted to have you aboard. The Blind Steersman has sorted your cabin out and laid out your demon bound pyjamas. For those unfamiliar you can check out our patreon page here.

[EDIT: Five minutes after I posted this friend of the show and podcaster-supreme-in-repose Clarkey joined us too… it must have been those pyjamas… WELCOME ABOARD. As a jugador you of course get the top bunk and your own clay vase to piss in (folks… don’t ask).]

Second, Simon Perrins has once again brewed us up some fantastic new imagery for site banners and visual identity/branding for the show, an example of which is above. I just adore Simon’s style. Check previous posts for more of his work.

Next, thanks for listening to our latest show looking at role-playing games and Moorcock.  In particular we had some gentle digs at Stormbringer third edition and drank some really terrible beers.  Obviously the beer thing is a staple of any shows with Loz, but moving away from Moorcock novels is something we’ll be doing infrequently as a side-excursion.  Perhaps every ten shows or so. Lined up for the future I’ve had some early indications that we can have a look at Moorcock’s influence on rock music and comics, with a couple of special guest co-hosts that I can accommodate now I’ve finally figured out remote recording.

As for the usual instalments we’ll be finishing off The Eternal Champion with Phil, digging into Phase Two of The Final Programme with Hussein, and Loz and I will be re-recording our first stab at Corum (thanks largely to the aforementioned hideous beers and our perhaps too ambitious attempt to record two shows in one evening). When we do do it that will be the third attempt at covering Corum when you include that first aborted attempt I did with Lindsey back when I was figuring this stuff out. You can check that out as a Patron extra.

That last attempt at Corum  and the RPG diversion were recorded during the July lockdown lull when we were briefly able to meet in person but Phil, Hussein, Loz  and I are now all subject to local C19 measures in the North of England so remote recording will be the method for the most part for some while to come.  The obvious exception is the Phil episodes so I can continue to enjoy her old-fashioned expertise.

Anyway, I hope you’re all staying safe out there. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you on the moonbeam roads.

Andy

Moorcock RPGs and the Journal of Gerard Arthur Connelly

Moorcock RPGs and the Journal of Gerard Arthur Connelly

Phil, Loz and I celebrate an all too brief interlude in lockdown life to drink weird porters and muse upon Moorcock’s treatment at the hands of tabletop role-playing games.

Phil taunts us with her syrupy beer avoidance skills, two-man canoes get far too many mentions and Loz gatekeeps Moorcock RPG play (the rotter).

Also, The Journal of Gerard Arthur Connelly debuts with chapter one.  There are 5 more to come (and if I don’t get pelted with rottent tomatoes I may write more).
